About this work
A young person with dark hair swept into a bun is shown from the chest up, bare-shouldered, turning their face toward the viewer with a lowered, pensive gaze. Orange-and-black butterflies cluster in the hair and rest on the shoulder while another hovers beside the head, the whole scene mirrored in dark water below.
Warm amber light falls across the face and shoulder, fading into near-total black at the edges so skin glows against deep shadow. The butterflies are picked out in fine, precise strokes of rust-red, black and cream against the softly blended flesh.
